Waste fuel rules in Wales

Wales has its own hazardous waste rules, regulated by Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Waste fuel moves on a Welsh hazardous waste consignment note, completed to NRW's guidance.

Unlike England, Wales still requires producer registration. A business that produces or stores more than 500 kg of hazardous waste a year must register with NRW every 12 months, and the registration is used on its consignment notes. A yard that drains fuel regularly can pass 500 kg quickly.

Permitted sites that receive waste in Wales have recorded it on the government's Digital Waste Tracking service since 1 October 2026.
