Where does waste avgas come from at airfields and flying clubs?

In brief

Fuel that fails daily quality checks, sump drains, bowser and tank bottoms, and out-of-date drums. Call 07950 582635 or send an enquiry.

Common problems with avgas at airfields

Water in avgas: water sinks to the bottom of avgas tanks and is drained from the sumps before flight; in an engine it causes rough running or stoppage. Jet fuel in avgas: jet fuel has very poor anti-knock quality in spark-ignition engines, so a piston aircraft running on contaminated avgas can suffer detonation and engine failure, often soon after take-off. Sediment in avgas: sediment blocks filters and wears pumps, injectors and nozzles, and it gives microbes somewhere to settle and grow.

Containers at airfields

Aviation fuel tanks, bowsers, drums and drain containers.
