What should I do with avgas contaminated with water?

In brief

If you find water in avgas, stop using the fuel, keep it in a closed container away from drains and ignition sources, and tell us roughly how much there is and what got in. Usually yes. Call 07950 582635 or send an enquiry.

What water in avgas does

Water sinks to the bottom of avgas tanks and is drained from the sumps before flight; in an engine it causes rough running or stoppage. Avgas has no ethanol, so the water stays as a separate layer.

Storing avgas contaminated with water until collection

Avgas is stored in dedicated aviation fuel tanks and bowsers with filtration, water drains and quality-control records. Do not add anything else to the container.

How City Fuel Services handles waste avgas

We collect waste avgas from cans and drums up to bulk tanks, across England, Wales and mainland Scotland, from our licensed site in Droylsden, Manchester. Terms, a rebate or a charge, are agreed before collection.

Consignment note
The document that travels with hazardous waste from the producer to the receiving site. Each person in the chain completes and signs their part.
