Closed, labelled containers in a bunded area; absorbents in sealed bags or drums. ## Storage rules for diesel

Keep diesel in a tank or container made for fuel, inside a bund that holds at least 110% of the largest container, away from drains and watercourses. The oil storage regulations in England, Wales and Scotland set these rules for most businesses, and DSEAR covers fire and explosion risk at work.

## Diesel from a spill clean-up: how quickly to act

Promptly, so the spill does not spread or recur. Fuel pumped or skimmed up after a spill is often mixed with water, soil, absorbents or debris.

## How City Fuel Services handles waste diesel

Every load of waste diesel is assessed before anything is booked. Tell us the quantity, the containers and any contamination; we confirm the terms, collect with a suitable vehicle, and take it to a permitted facility on a consignment note.

## Terms used in this answer

**IBC (intermediate bulk container)**: A plastic tank, usually holding 1,000 litres, in a steel cage on a pallet base. The most common container for drained fuel.
**DSEAR**: The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002. They require employers to assess and control fire and explosion risks from substances such as petrol.
